X, Exene, Collage Poster Print, 12×18
X, my most fave band ever. I spent a lot of time with X before and after they became a band. Exene’s face says everything we all were feeling after the LA Cops attacked punks at a peaceful show at Elk’s Lodge, St Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1979. The Go-Go’s were schedule to play. THAT should tell you no one was causing problems. But the riot squad showed up, starting beating up punks left and right. The next day a press conference was held at the Masque, March 18, 1979, at the Masque. My iconic photo of Exene during filming of Decline of Western Civilization, Club 88. Exene chose this image herself for the cover of a Live at the Masque CD/cassette she produced in mid-1990s. You can see footage of this show on YouTube. I’m standing right next to the stage. All around me is chaos. HOW I ever managed to take great photos is a miracle even I don’t understand. Sometimes it’s just magic. #1979 #1980 #X #Exene #ExeneCervenka #Club88 #Masque #PunkFashions #PunkPhotos #PunkPioneers #JennyLens #CollagePrint
