Patti Smith on her back, San Diego, Nov 11, 1976. I taught myself how to develop film and make prints. I developed these incorrectly, hence the glow. No retouching! This is how the original negative looks! I had to print on high contrast paper. Cool!

Patti has used this image many times for many years. She credits my images to “Jenny Stern.” I repeatedly asked her to use my legal and biz name, Jenny Lens. But ya know, she’s Patti, who inspired me to get into punk. Her shows memorable and unique. For that, I’m grateful.
