“Jenny Lens was not just one of the few photographers chronicling the early punk scene in both North America and London, she was also one of the few women working in a very male-dominated field.
Her life is pretty fascinating and made up of the three acts usually associated with characters in movies and novels.” Read more @ Adorama Camera.

One reason I have NOT posted more stories and photos is because some people are mean and rude and liars.
(“Some people give me the creeps,” from “We’re Desperate,” X.)
So I created this PRIVATE SAFE SPACE for us.
I plan on having some live sessions, as well as recorded audio and video.
It’s vital that we treat each other, and especially me, with respect. I should not have to say this, but it’s crazy how crazy people are!
Ok, so let’s have effin’ fun cos we sure need it.
Thanks and stay the eff well!
If you dare defend not wearing masks, I will kick your ass to the curb and not refund your money. That is not negotiable! No current politics! Also non-negotiable.
Let’s have fun and keep it safe for ALL of us. Thanks!

Members: write with suggestions what stories, events, shows, bands, people, parties, general themes, anything you are wondering about, 1976-80.
I possibly can include photos IF on my list: Bands, Parties, Venues, People 1976-80.
Contrary to popular thought, NOT all my photos scanned. Many are scanned very small, due to technology I owned at the time.
ANY idea how much time and money scanning costs? Six figures.

I photographed starting with the Ramones first West coast Tour, August 1976 to the Clash 16 Tons Tour in England, June 1980. ONLY.
See my list: Bands, Parties, Venues, People 1976-80.
I did not photograph much hardcore punk cos I hated the mindless violence.
I needed FUN, interesting people in creative, colorful clothes, and songs with lyrics that resonated with me and music that had a beat and you can dance to it. Not thrashing each other in the mosh pit.
Sadly, some of my fave negs and slides were stolen by a woman in the music industry supposedly trying to help me.
I’ve lots scanned, but not all large images. So we’ll deal with hundreds that are available.
Plus stories you’ve never heard or only heard from others. I always said punk is like the 6 blind men and the elephant.
Everyone has their own memories. But I wasn’t drunk and I do have photos. Plus I’ve interviewed many who also didn’t get stoned out of their minds every night.
Joan Jett (when still in Runaways), Exene and John Doe (months before X ever played!), Rand McNally (before he co-founded Dangerhouse Records) and Pleasant Gehman.
This was before Plez created Lobotomy fanzine. The first issue used my Mumps photo on cover. I was the only photographer listed in masthead. I have it as proof, no matter what you might read or hear elsewhere!

“Seminal punk photographer Jenny Lens was rarely celebrated, but responsible for many of the Hollywood scene’s most iconic and honest images.“
Urb magazine, July/August 2006.
I shot THE classic photos: Ramones, Joan Jett/Runaways, X, Darby Crash, Germs, Screamers, the Masque, Clash, Sex Pistols, Damned and more.
IF you are an early punk fan, you’ve seen my photos. Often without my name. Fanzines, magazines, books, doc, merch (usually bootlegged).
NOW hear the TRUE TALL TALES behind my photos, many seen, many more never seen. The people I shot, parties, street, backstage, and yeah, the BEST punk rock shows ever! NEW stories only for your ears.
For a few bucks a month, hear the facts from “the Girl with the Camera Eye,” (anointed by Patti Smith). So get with it or get left behind. Your choice. Good rockin’ tonight.

Jenny Lens In Action
I’ve always been camera shy, but so glad there’s a few images of myself! I painted my face as if I were Fauve (“Wild Beast”) Matisse on acid.
I made most of my jewelry and some of my clothes. Hollywood punks were a rough crowd. Amazing I got out alive! Gotta be made of strong stuff to survive. But it takes money and time and energy.
IF you support my hard work, which I do for you, you’ll Start Now. Please tell others. On ALL social media. Often. Thank you.
Center image: Robbie “Posh Boy” Fields, founder of Posh Boy Records and I were making out at a Screamers party, January 20, 1978. Melanie Nissen took this photo. We were making out in the closet! Oh that was a wild party.
KK Barrett (drummer for Screamers and later nominated for an Oscar) and others were throwing spaghetti in the kitchen. And Moshe Brakha models were there … that was the night I met his manager. Then we had an affair.

I shot Divine at Fiorucci’s, Beverly Hills, June 1978. I fried my dark, naturally curly hair while bleaching it to turn it magenta, using Crazy Color hair dye from England. LOL! I never bleached my hair and was clueless. But that never stopped me!
The more I think about these times, the more I remember … images come to life in front of my eyes, many in my mind. So vivid. As if it were last night.
I’ve never told most of the stories nor in detail like you’ll hear. Plus see never seen photos and ephemera.
